Overall, I would certainly recommend this product if you are looking for a foot-switch to control your amp's inbuilt reverb and tremolo effects. Shipping was instant and the item arrived very quickly. I did use it once as a stand in from guitar to amp, and noticed no drop in tone.Īs always, Thomann's pricing is very competitive and fair. As the foot-switch will not be in your signal chain, there is no need to mention how it effects your guitar's tone. I've owned this product for about six months, and it's never let me down. It's very well built and sturdy, and will obviously be able to take a stomping. It's powered from the amp (for the LEDs), so you don't have to worry about that. The colour is all black, and the printed Vox logo is of a high quality, and has not faded or scuffed in the time I have owned it. The underside is smooth and will take Velcro too, if you wish. Attachment wise, I use a bicycle chain links, which were easy to slip onto the screws holding the body together. The product is a fair size, meaning if you want it on your pedal board, it will eat up some room. Worst case scenario, you can add your own labels until it becomes muscle memory. They are not labelled, so you'll just have to remember which is which, but I'm sure you're sophisticated enough to manage that. Both are latching foot-switches, and the each has a red LED that illuminates when the switch is engaged or latched. In (V5) as top boost tube, we recommend our RT001 12AX7A-C / ECC83 TAD.

Foot-switch 1 controls the reverb (On/Off) and foot-switch 2 controls the tremolo (On/Off). The input tube for the brillinat and normal channel (V4), for this tube set, is our RT010 7025 TAD HIGHGRADE Premium Selected which is outstanding because of its high gain, but low microphony, powerful middles and a round, rich overtone sound. Needless to say, it functions exactly as expected. You'll get lots of hits, it's all over the Internet.I bought this for my Vox AC30 C2 to act as a switch for the built-in reverb and tremolo effects. If you want more details of the mods, Google "Lyle Caldwell AC30cc mods". My AC30CC came with all JJ brand tubes, they sound just fine. I also did not change the power and output transformers for upgraded ones because I don't think the tonal gain is worth the cost.

There is also a Tremolo mod that speeds up the Tremolo which I did not do because I like a slow Tremolo. Replace OEM Pan with Accutronics pan # 9EB2C1B. Replaced R18 with a 28K ½ Watt Metal Film Resistor.Īdded a 470K resistor across lugs 1 and 3 of the reverb drive switch. This helps the amp run cooler and more stable. Jumpered R49 to get more Pre-amp gain on the "Normal" channel.Īdded a permanent 68pf cap to the circuit and replace C12 (220pf) with a 68pf cap to obtain switching from 68pf to 136pf values.Ĭhanged the 100 ohm screen resistors on the output tubes to 470 ohm, and the 1.2k grid resistors to 2.2k. Top boost channel Mod to tame excessive treble: Replaced R6 & R7 ( 100k Plate Resistors) With Vintage Specs.

Here is a list of changes I did to the amp: Click here for more details of the Bohemian Rhapsodyne attenuator. I built an attenuator to use specifically with this amp I call the Bohemian Rhapsodyne to allow me to crank the amp and overdrive the power tubes. It does have a master volume, but you can't get power tube distortion using it. I have a variety of overdrive pedals that sound great with it, including a vintage style Rangemaster with a germanium transistor I built myself. The amp now has a smooth sweet overdrive and also cleans up nicely when I back off on the volume control of the guitar.

Lyle will do the mods for you, but I bought the parts and did the mods myself, which consisted of swapping some caps and resistors and other changes to make the AC30CC sound more like a vintage AC30 from the sixties. The tone of the modded AC20CC he described was just what I was looking for. I was on the verge of just selling the amp when I came across some mods published on an Internet forum by a tech named Lyle Caldwell. I didn't really want to spend the huge amount of money for the Celestions and a BM guitar to find out it still wasn't what I was looking for. Everyone says to get "that" tone you had to have the Celestion Blues. To be honest I could not get a usable tone out of this amp and wasn't sure what to do. This AC30CC came with Wharfdale speakers. That thick, creamy overdrive you get when an AC30 is cranked is amazing, and I wanted it, so I bought an AC30CC, otherwise known as the AC30 Custom Classic. His homemade guitar and unique tone are famous throughout the guitar world, and a big part of his tone is the AC30. I prefer the thick, overdriven sound achieved by Brian May of Queen. I lot of guys use them for that I suppose (Not me!) but originally it was anything but. The AC30 has a reputation for being a clean, jangly amp with "chime".
